Ever heard of a calf with a story that sounds straight out of a children’s book? Let me introduce you to Lost, our little bottle calf who’s been breaking the rules since day one. Lost’s journey began when he was born a twin, which is quite the event itself. But things took a turn when his mom left him in the field after giving birth, moving away to have his sister.
Imagine our surprise during our 6am calving check, finding Lost wandering and calling out for his mom. He tagged along behind us like he knew we’d help him out. We tried to get him back with his mom and sister, but no luck; his mom wasn’t having any of it. So, that’s how Lost became our special bottle calf.
This little guy is the definition of persistence. As different cows moved through the barnyard, Lost figured out he could sneak in for a meal while they were busy with their own calves. He got so good at it, often feeding right beside another calf like it was totally normal. So, it’s safe to say, Lost has had quite a variety of moms over these past 4 months.
Recently, he’s been hanging out with 9M and his mom, who’s been staying close to the barn due to an injury. They’re getting extra care, and Lost is loving the additional feed and attention.
It looks like he’ll be with us through the winter, which the boys are thrilled about since they’ve got him halter broke and take him for rinses on hot days. Lost is quite the character, enjoying his walks around the barnyard during morning chores.
Talk about making the best out of a tough start. Lost’s story is one of resilience, adaptability, and finding your family in the most unexpected places.
