It’s hard to believe that we’re already in the middle of November, especially with the weather feeling more like October! The crisp autumn air usually signals a shift on the ranch, but this year, we’ve been blessed with unseasonably warm days.

Checking the Cow Herd
One of our favourite routines this time of year is checking on the cow herd on their fall pasture. Our cows are thriving, happily grazing without a care in the world. In fact, they’re so content that they hardly glance up when we drive by to check on them—a reassuring sign that they are full and happy.

Working the Show Steers
In between the morning and evening chores, our homeschool lessons continue, and it’s inspiring to watch the boys’ eagerness to learn and grow. They diligently work on their lessons after they get some much appreciated exercise outside in the morning. Then you can feel the boys enthusiasm after each homeschool day as they race outside to work their new show steer projects. They are gently working with their steers, starting by brushing their haircoats and helping them get used to be handled. Patience is key as they slowly introduce the halters. It’s all about building trust and nurturing a bond!

Quiet Evenings
In the evenings, they have taken the lead on some exciting holiday projects using our laser engraver. This year, our goal is to handcraft as many gifts as possible, ensuring a personal touch in everything we give. The boys are in their element, embracing the creativity that comes with the laser engraver. They’ve made some fantastic items, including wood Christmas tags, personalized notebooks, custom wood signs, wood Christmas ornaments, and even some unique custom ear tags for the animals!
In the evenings, we are also spending some time in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes to share with you all! From hearty ranch-style meals to delightful treats, we love creating dishes that reflect our way of life. We’re excited to bring you some fresh recipe ideas that incorporate the flavours of our ranch and keep our family traditions alive.
A Much-Needed Break
November tends to be quieter on the ranch, offering us a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle of busier months. This slower pace allows us to catch up on tasks we couldn’t manage throughout the year. With the extra warm weather this November, we’ve taken the opportunity to tackle some outdoor projects that we usually put on hold due to colder temperatures.

As the days go by, we are carefully monitoring the weather forecast. It won’t be long before we need to move the cows into their final pasture for the year. Until then, we’re soaking up these lovely warm days and cherishing them while they last.

With everything we have going on, we’re reminded of the simple joys of ranch life: the peace of the pastures, the creativity of our little ones, and the warmth of togetherness. We hope you’re also finding ways to cherish the season, embracing the moments that make it truly meaningful.

Stay warm and inspired this November!
