Who’s feeling brave today? Can you handle a reality check? How many things that you’ve moaned about today are part of the life you dreamed of yesterday? I know I’m guilty of complaining about the mundane task of daily chores or the long days at times. All we need is perspective. The little agonies are just a blip in the radar of the wonderful life we’re living right now!
Haying Season
This past week has been a gorgeous week for haying season. We have been busy swathing, raking and baling. It feels like we are finally getting some fields completed after frequent July rainstorms. It sounds like the weather is going to stay warm, so hopefully we can have another successful weekend.
How do we know when the field is ready to be cut? On our alfalfa/grass fields, we look for the purple flowers on the alfalfa to know how mature the crop is. Ideally, we like to cut the field during early bloom, when it’s about 30%. When cutting at this point in time, it will produce high quality of feed as long as it will baled at the right moisture level and doesn’t see any rain when it is drying in the field. If you wait too long, the nutritional value decreases.
Bull Problems
We had a short break in the middle of the past week as one of our herd bulls decided to go wandering. We found him having a very vocal conversation with some neighbouring bulls and then again in the same spot the next morning. He now has a group of cows with him and he seems to have quit breaking fences.
Upcoming Beef Deliveries
We are doing some more ground beef deliveries tomorrow morning. We also have bones available. Send us an email if you would like to be included in the delivery schedule.
Have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy the sunshine!
